McLoughlin: “Draw would have been a fair result”

Jarrow Roofing boss Richie McLoughlin saw his side come back twice before claiming a dramatic stoppage time winner against Ashington at Boldon Sports Ground on Saturday which propelled them up to joint third in the Ebac Northern League’s first division table. But an honest McLoughlin, assessing the game, thought the Colliers deserved a share of the spoils: “We played well today but possibly a draw would have been a fair result,” he said, “I thought we were slightly better than Ashington but they have played well and battled it out throughout the game. It looked like it was going to finish 2-2 but when Glen Taylor had the chance for Ashington near the end, I thought he would have scored – and if he had then I don’t think we would have come back a third time.” McLoughlin also pointed to what he described as being a world class save by his ‘keeper Alan Greenan from Taylor when the score was 1-1 as being a turning point: “Alan has made a world class save from a one on one with Taylor and that changed the game because my immediate thoughts were about us conceding a goal,” he said. McLoughlin meanwhile is delighted with his playing squad this term: “I thought Shaun Vipond and Jack Errington had great games for us today,” he added, “But I am over the moon with the squad. They are a good bunch of lads who mix together and who are doing well on the pitch which makes my job easier. And when they lose there’s no need to shout at them because I know they will have given there all for the club.”
