Bamburgh Castle, Bamburgh

Bamburgh Castle

One of the most imposing castles in England, Bamburgh castle sits on a basalt crag dominating this part of the beautiful Northumberland coast.

Bamburgh Castle is probably the finest castle in England. It is perched on a basalt outcrop on the very edge of the North Sea at Bamburgh, Northumberland. It commands stunning views of the Farne Islands, Holy Island and landward to the Cheviot hills.

The castle has been extensively restored, first by Lord Crewe in the 1750's and more recently by the first Lord Armstrong at the end of the 19th century. The castle continues to be the home of the Armstrong family.

In 2008 Bamburgh Castle will be open from Saturday 1st March until 31st October daily from 10am - 5pm. Last entry is at 4pm. Please allow plenty of time as there is a lot to see.
